Hello fellow macro social workers!

Just wanted to let everyone know about a site I founded for social workers called My Social Work Network (www.mysocialworknetwork.com). I developed it as a free resource for social workers to help better organize and mobilize our profession. You can create a professional profile, search thousands of social work jobs, keep current on social work news, and network with other social workers who share your interests, among other things.

I'm proud to say I'm a macro social worker too! I earned my MSW from the University of Connecticut with a focus in policy practice. So, us rare macro workers have to stick together :) Anyway, feel free to check-out the site and if you feel it adds value to our profession, please help to spread the word!

Sincerely,
Michelle C. Bussolotti, MSW

My Social Work Network

In some ways My Social Work Network is like LinkedIn, but in most ways it is very different and you can do so much more related to social work. For example, you can post "Take Actions" where you invite the community to take action on issues, or you can post and browse resources, links, events, videos, RSS feeds, and news related to social work. You can also have discussions with other social workers through a forum, chatroom, or individual online chat session. We just added the ability to post free internship and volunteer positions -for both individuals seeking a position or seeking to fill a position. We are also creating a social work career center.

The main thing I thought about when developing My Social Work Network was the specific networking needs of social workers and how this site can cater to that need where other networking sites like Facebook or LinkedIn were too general. On My Social Work Network, you can search social workers by their interests/expertise, location, experience, degree, school, company, etc. For instance, I am a macro worker who is into women's rights. Let's say I want to get something done in Washington. I can find other social workers on My Social Work Network who are into women's rights in DC and network with them. Heck, the site has only been up less than a month and one of our State Reps (who is a social worker) joined -offering me the chance to get acquainted with him.

I invite everyone to check it out. I'm always happy to hear feedback :) I want to make sure I am meeting the needs of our profession. I hope My Social Work Network can serve as a valuable tool in the work we do as social workers.
